The Walking Dead – The best and the worst

Well, as you might have realized from my last recap of the show, the finale came this Sunday, a little too soon for my liking, but what are you gonna do? Begging the producers, actors and zombies to stop their everyday life and start filming? Hm…I wonder if that would work? I am sure I can summon up those 5-6 million viewers they had going each week and organized something. Until that cunning plan comes to fruition let’s see the best and the worse of this series that really had the world on fire. Keep in mind that those five million viewers are only the ones that got to see the show as it aired. There are several thousand or million people that used less orthodox methods of viewing – streaming, download, such and such. The point is, it went places. And now let’s see the best and the worse the show had to offer. The Best. The zombies! Oh my God! They had some of the best zombies I have ever seen. The make-up artists have become my heroes. I worship at their shrine. The little girl in the very first episode was done flawlessly, keeping an air of [...]

The Walking Dead – TS-19

I am sure I am not the only one shocked at how fast time flew by and we got to the last episode of The Walking Dead. They have only made and aired 6 episodes and still this show has a great following. I am sure it’s due in part to the fact that is based on a comic book and in part due to the great acting we got to witness. Now that I made a nice eulogy for the first season of this show, let’s get down to business. Last night we were treated to the finale. In case you forgot, last week we left off at the doors of the CDC (Center for Disease Control). Rick made a desperate plea to Jenner (the one lonely, slightly deranged scientist that was still left in the building) and he opened the door for them. It runs pretty smooth at first, with Jenner making a deal with them – a blood sample against a safe place to stay. Now, in case you haven’t seen the episode yet pay attention to what he says. “Once that door closes it can’t be opened again.” Ok, so maybe he didn’t use these exact [...]

The Walking Dead – Wildfire

Another week brought a new great episode from the AMC. I mentioned before this series just seems unable to go wrong. There were some odd things in this episode, I’ll nitpick at them later, but first things first. This week’s episode starts with Rick trying in vain to reach Morgan (in case you forgot who he is – the guy that nearly bashed Rick’s head in with a bat during the Pilot). Rick seems to be aware of the futility of the act judging by his behaviour when trying to raise Morgan on the radio. Most of his despair probably stems from the previous nights events – all the campers that were bitten and killed by walkers. I can understand that. It was pretty much the first time he, and us had a chance to see the walkers in action and not just as dead masses running around looking creepy. Back at the camp Andrea is going a little crazy with grief over her younger sister’s death. She pulls a gun on our hero who backs away from her and doesn’t pursue the issue of having to “re-kill” Amy or she’ll rise as a walker. Daryl is the voice of [...]

The Walking Dead – Tell it to the frogs

Another Sunday, another episode of The Walking Dead. So far one of the few shows about which I can say – they can’t go wrong! Or, they haven’t gone wrong so far. The episode starts with a moment that actually broke my heart. Merle, our more than villainous character was still tied up on the roof of the building where T-Dog left him after “conveniently” dropping the key down a drain. True, it didn’t seem intentional, but I don’t believe in the goodness of people…so, yeah. Merle played by Michael Rooker was amazingly touching. Watching him face his own demise was like watching the five stages of grief in action. Except he didn’t reach acceptance and in turn tried to fight it off until the end. We are left wondering about his fate until the end of the episode though, so let’s move on with a glowing praise for his acting skills. I hate Merle, but I still wanted to give him a hug during that scene. Or, even more useful a key. Rick and the rest of the merry gang end up back to the camp where the other survivors have settled, Glen raising the dead (no pun intended) [...]
