Whenever I hear his name I flashback to the first time I saw him, it was a show called Rescue 77 and I became infatuated with his character after the first episode. Fame LA followed that (I am aware they came out in reverse order) – and it was my chance to hear him sing, then Angel came along and there really was no escape anymore. I was hooked for life.

But who is Christian Kane? I could give you a physical description, add in some biographical details and leave my imagination run wild and I am sure we wouldn’t be close to solve that particular puzzle. Since that is a question only he can answer and he’s a little out of my reach I’ll just let the words fly and see where that leads us. Beware subjective opinions below.

Christian Kane proved everyone early on that he is more than a pretty face (well, Christian if you read this – your face is totally pretty, I’m not denying that, as it happens it’s just not the first thing that crosses my mind if I think of you).

He is a wonderful actor, an amazing singer/songwriter and he does all of this with the same level of dedication and talent. Most people tend to excel in one area or another, he does it all perfectly. I admit I am quite impressed with his abilities, the fact that he shows modesty about his work gives him extra brownie points in my book. Had he been infatuated with himself over the fact that he is pretty much good at everything he does I might have turned away, but as it happens it wasn’t the case. Phew, glad he dodged that bullet!

But what is it that he does, exactly? Well, since his career started he’s been steadily working in various series – Fame LA, Angels, Into the West to name a few. He currently stars in Leverage- as a hitter with a heart of gold (and he does his own stunts) but his work doesn’t stop to the small screen. Christian has been in several movies – Friday Night Lights, Summer Catch, Taxi – the American version of the French films with the same name and quite a lot of other movies that have established him as a talent among the fans and the critics.

Face it, a man who can make you love his character even when he plays a villain has some serious skills. And he has played some pretty shady characters in the past. For the Angel fans, Lindsey McDonald comes to mind. He just wasn’t a nice guy, but we all wanted him brought back from the dead because we wanted more Christian. If a villainous character he plays can garner that reaction think how his fans react when he plays one of the good guys? Case and point Eliot Spencer – his Leverage character. He is a thief and he beats people up for a living, but he does it for the greater good. I think ‘m hearing some fan girl hearts melting. Admit it, you’re getting a small tug at your heart too when you see him convey so many emotions through his expressions alone.

But back to our subject, I am actually playing his music as I type, I am looking for inspiration. I am again surprised at how good his voice is. I have heard him play for years, songs like Spirit Boy, Rattlesnake Smile, The House Rules or Oklahoma state of mine are some of my favourites, but I still have an emotional reaction when I hear him play. The mark of a great artist I guess.

Here is a sample of his music – Thinking of you, a song featured in a Leverage episode – it’s high up on my list of songs to listen to endlessly. There is a soothing quality to that song, like most of the ballads he sings, it just makes you feel better somehow.

Ok, this wasn’t easy. I still think I didn’t do him any justice. What can I mention more? Ah, yes! He is quite great to the fans, not above saying a nice word to them and giving them a thank you every now and then for sticking by his side, whether it is through watching him on TV or listening to him play live. Thumbs up for that one. Now for a little meltdown – here’s a picture worth a thousand words, Christian and an adorable puppy. Now you have to love the man, no…seriously you do!
