Revival seems to be the trend in modern entertainment. If until recently the most talked about “genre resurrection” was that of vampires and other mythical creatures – such as werewolves, it seems that other heroes of the old days are getting more and more attention on the big screen and the small screen alike. One fine example of this is Sherlock Holmes. After a stunning performance at the box office by Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes, staring Robert Downey Jr. as the main character and Jude Law as his side-kick Watson, BBC’s Sherlock proved that the world’s most famous detective still holds an appeal for older and younger generations alike. The fact that Sherlock, created by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat is set in modern times, where a gadget like the Iphone and cutting-edge computer science is readily available, didn’t hurt the show one bit.  Based loosely on Arthur Conan Doyle’s novels the show is gripping and innovative at the same time. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman take on the roles of Sherlock and Watson, respectively in a TV show that has fans all over the world beaming with anticipation for the new series.
