Since we have a new movie category starting today – Classic movie of the week – I’ve decided to start with the cult film in which Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro stared as Raoul Duke and Dr. Gonzo ,our brave anti-heroes – Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. It was a hot summer day that I decided to watch this film, a film that has more critics than fans, but the fans are vocal enough to cover whatever the more “educated and elevated” among us have to throw at us concerning their opinions. The movie is the adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s book with the same title, regarding the adventures or misadventures he has experienced during a psychedelic trip to Las Vegas accompanied by his friend, renamed Gonzo to protect his identity. The movie is insane, really, there isn’t another word to describe it. For those impatient enough not to watch it until the end it will never be more than jumbled images thrown on screen, feebly connected by the voice-over commentary by Duke.
