The very first woman to grace our Up and coming stars corner is the lovely Lauren Socha. For those of you who don’t know who she is (shame on you), Lauren is currently playing Kelly Bailey in Misfits, the UK hit show that garnered a huge fan-base worldwide after only 2 seasons. Dressing like a chav and possesing quite a distinct accent, Kelly comes accross as dangerous and tomboyish, but she hides a heart of gold behind all that smoke and mirrors. Lauren managed to bring the complexity of the character to the screen in a way that made her character one of the most popular ones in the series. But she is no stranger to acting in demanding roles, movies such as The Unloved, for which she received a BAFTA nomination, Five Daughters and Scummy Man, a short film available on YouTube for viewing, have put her on the map as one of the most talented actresses of her generation. In 2010 she was nominated for a BAFTA and she was finally rewarded for her talent in 2011 when she won the prized Best Supporting Actress award at only 21 for her role in Misfits. Despite being honoured with such [...]
Interview with Danielle Nicolet
Danielle Nicolet has been around for quite a while, you might be familiar with her from things such as Heartland or The Starter Wife but her career started in the early nineties in Family Matters. Since then all her roles took her one step further in developing her abilities. Today she is about to show us how well she does in Red Faction, a new SyFy channel pilot based on the game with the same name. But have no fear, we’re all invited whether we know the game or not. We had the opportunity to interview Danielle and this is what she had to say related to the premiere of the show and her future plans. 1. Your acting has been extremely versatile – drama, comedy, fantasy and sci-fi. but this will be the first video game adaptation you do.Gamers are notorious for their attitude towards TV or movie adaptations of their favourites. Are you in any way afraid of how it will be received? I am a little bit anxious about the gamers. We really wanted to provide the existing fans a movie that would enhance their gaming experience. Origins makes it more personal, gives them some history and [...]
Anthony Ingruber – Interview
Anthony Ingruber is quite well known around the world of Youtube for his uncannily accurate depiction of such artist like Robert Downey Jr., Harrison Ford and many others, some even say he might be the latter’s long lost son, based on the similarity between the two. Since he entered the glamorous world of showbiz, Anthony has been keeping busy staring in short films (most recently Halo: Faith) and in movies, like Disney’s Channel – Avalon High. His part was small in that film, yet he is the one actor that stood out among the rest of the cast, being one of the most talked about character in the movie. Talk about making a good first impression. We were lucky enough to get an interview from Mr. Ingruber, here is what he had to say. GA: Anthony, you were made famous by your YouTube impersonations of various actors – Robert Downey, Jr., Harrison Ford. Do you think this might ever hinder your choices in the acting profession? That people might see you solely as an impersonator rather than an actor in your own rights? Anthony Ingruber: I’m very versatile in my acting, so I hope I’m not seen purely as a [...]
Anthony Guajardo
Since we now have a section for up and coming stars, it seemed only fitting to add young Anthony Guajardo to your list. If you aren’t yet in the know, he has made it to the big leagues when he first appeared on the hit AMC show The Walking Dead. Even though his appearance was rather brief, only 1 episode – Vatos, he became a hit with the fans and he is getting to make quite a name for himself. Now, this baby faced actor has been in “the business” for years, he started way back when he seven years old, you know the age most kids still watch cartoons and dream of becoming superheros. His aspirations towards acting have been around longer than that, apparently he wanted to be an actor when he was five. Talk about perseverance in chasing your dreams. So far Anthony has been in The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, though he was uncredited for his appearance and in the aforementioned The Walking Dead where he portrayed a young man struggling for survival in a zombie infested city, with a somewhat confusing rate of success. Not being caught and eaten by zombies should count, getting [...]
François Arnaud
François Arnaud has been gracing our screens for the past four weeks in the role of the infamous Cesare Borgia and I have to say I have been muttering under my breath every time I’ve seen him on screen. No one should be able to make a man who is rumoured(and occasionally proven) to have been a devious killer, likable. And yet François does. It’s a show of great talent to be able to build a character that is supposed to be beyond redemption into a character you, more often than not, want to give a hug to. How can you not? He portrays the struggles Cesare has with his actions, he plays on the sibling rivalry and he even shows some daddy issues (or more than some, but you catch my drift.) Francois Arnaud just turned Cesare Borgia – the monster into the everyday man. Could be you, could be any of us. After seeing his performance in The Borgias – and I already said it’s quite a performance – I have decided to do my homework and discover more of Mr. Arnaud’s work. I started with the award winning movie – J’ai tue ma mere(I have killed my [...]
Have a safe Journey, Elisabeth Sladen
For many the name of Elisabeth Sladen might spark no recognition, but if I say – Sarah Jane Smith everyone will recognize one of the most iconic companions the Doctor ever had. She was part of the Doctor Who adventures longer than any companion and she touched every generation’s heart with her portrayal. She grew from a young girl to a fulfilled woman and took us on one hell of a ride in the TARDIS. But Elisabeth was more than Sarah Jane, even if that is her most beloved work. She has appeared in theater productions, children’s programs and she always found the time to make the fans happy by attending various conventions. The Sarah Jane Adventures was her own spin-off show from Doctor Who and even though it targeted a less mature audience as opposed to Torchwood – another spin-off, it had plenty of grown-up fans who tuned in each week to get their dose of Sarah Jane and see how she will go about stopping the latest threat to Earth. Twitter burst last night with the shocking news that after some complications due to cancer, Elisabeth Sladen has passed away. All hopes that it’s yet another bad joke were [...]
